İzmir: Archaeology Museum

How about time travel? One of the must-see places on your trip to Izmir is the Archeology Museum, don't forget to add it to your program...

The museum is open every day of the week and you can visit it until 17:30.

The entrance fee is 25 TL. That's about $1.35 or €1.30 at today's rate. By the way, only Turkish Lira is accepted.

If you want to spend a lot of time on museums on your trip, I suggest you take a look at the Museum Pass. It will be more affordable...

The museum, which was opened in the 1920s, has been serving in the building where it has been since the 1980s.

Artifacts found in excavations in places such as Smyrna, Ephesus, Pergamon, Miletus, Aphrodisias, Clazomenae, Teos, and Iasos are on display.

In short, this is the most important museum about the civilizations that lived in the Aegean Region.

The museum consists of the Stone Works Hall, the Treasury Chamber and the Ekrem Akurgal Ceramic Works Hall.

I recommend taking at least 45 minutes; however, if you are going to do detailed planning, at least 60 minutes may be ideal.

How to get to Izmir Archaeological Museum?

If you are going to use the metro or Konak Tram, you should get off at Konak: 10 minutes walking distance from the museum. Konak Feryy Terminal is also a 10-minute walk away. If you are going to walk to the museum, I have to mention that part of the road is uphill. It can be a little challenging if you have a pram, wheelchair or similar situation.

If you come by ESHOT buses, you can use Kız Yurdu or Etnoğrafya Müzesi (Ethnography Museum) stops.

Archeology and Ethnography Museum

The sign at the entrance of the museum is in the form of Izmir Archeology and Ethnography Museum. The reason is this: After passing through the common main entrance, you will come across two buildings. One of them is the Archeology Museum and the other is the Ethnography Museum. The Ethnography Museum will already draw your attention with the architecture of its building. However, this museum is closed for now. You will know when it opens...
