Transportation in the Coastal Aegean

When it comes to summer vacation in Turkey, two places usually come to mind: Antalya is the first and the second is the Coastal Aegean. So what are the ways to see more than one place in the Coastal Aegean?

First of all, let me list the most popular places of the Coastal Aegean: Bodrum, Çesme, Fethiye, Kuşadası, Marmaris... There are three airports to reach these places. The busiest is Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport. Others are Dalaman Airport and Bodrum-Milas Airport.

First of all, let's look briefly at the location of these touristic places: Fethiye is located in the south. As you move towards the north, Marmaris, Bodrum, Kuşadası and Çeşme come respectively. If you are starting your journey from the south, I suggest you find a direct flight to Dalaman Airport. If you are arriving via Istanbul, you can easily find a flight. Domestic Flights in Turkey will work. If you are planning to start from the north, I recommend Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport. Therefore, you do not need to find a flight ticket to Bodrum-Milas Airport unless you have to.

How can you travel with?

There are a few options. First of all, there is no railway in the area. Airline is also not an option due to short distances. There are several options on the highway as well.

a. Bus Transport: Bus Transport in Turkey

b. Rent a Car: There are many companies that offer car rental services. You can find their direct offices at the airports. You can also find a car of your choice in various websites and applications. Honestly, I recommend making a reservation before you come. It will be good for your trip to choose a car according to both your budget and your model preference. Indeed, there are dozens of websites. There are both companies' own sites and sites where they advertise such as Booking. I would like to share with you a few that provide services in English.

i. Garenta is one of the largest car rental companies serving throughout Turkey. The site is also very easy to use.

ii. Enterprise, on the other hand, is a global company originating in the USA, serving in dozens of countries, and can be preferred in this region as well.

iii. Budget is the last company I want to share as another option.

c. Others: The French firm BlaBlaCar can also be used in Turkey. Transportation advertisements can be found easily between many points; but if you are more than two people it can be a bit difficult. Taxi usage is not possible for domestic tourists due to economic reasons. However, if you are confident in your budget, the discretion is yours. Hitchhiking is one of the most frequently used methods in Turkey. However, it is preferred in places far from the city. Therefore, I do not recommend you to choose both in this region and during the summer holidays.

Route

The route you see below is the fastest option suggested by Google Maps.

The ferry takes about two hours. During the summer, there are lines from Bodrum at 9 am, 12 noon and 6 pm. There are lines from Datça at 9 am, 11:45 am and 6 pm. As of July 5, the one-way fare is 500 TL, which is approximately 28 Euros or 29 US Dollars.

When you use the road between Kuşadası and Çeşme on the map below, you will see that you are away from the sea. That route takes 2 hours and there are paid passes. On the other hand, if you do not leave the beach, you can both enjoy the view and swim wherever you want. It only takes 15-20 minutes more than recommended.
