Izmir Airport Transportation Guide

There is an airport in Izmir that is open to civil flights: Adnan Menderes Airport. We have prepared a guide post about this airport that you will be curious about...

The airport, named after Adnan Menderes, one of the former prime ministers, has been in service since 1987. The airport, which is a destination for regular or seasonal flights of airlines such as Aegean, Aer Lingus, Air Moldova, Eurowings, Iran Air, Qatar Airways, is also a destination regularly used by Turkish companies like Turkish Airlines and Pegasus. The airport is mostly used by SunExpress in my estimation. Passengers arriving in Izmir from various European cities can go to other cities in Turkey by transferring here. (Domestic Flights in Turkey)

I. Public Transportation in Izmir

There are some different options and it is possible to say that it is better when compared to other cities. There are three options you can choose for your inner city journey at the airport:

a. HAVAŞ

HAVAŞ is a private bus company and has bus services on different routes. You can go to Alaçatı, Çeşme, Karşıyaka, Alsancak and Urla with HAVAŞ. Fast, comfortable and affordable. By the way, to compare with taxi prices, HAVAŞ will be more affordable for one or two people. I can recommend the taxi for three or more people.

b. İZBAN

İZBAN is the suburban train system in İzmir. You can go as far as Aliağa in the north and as far as Selçuk in the south. Unfortunately, İZBAN does not work in a certain time interval. Those who want to move in the north direction may not find a train from 12 am to 5 am. Those who want to move south may not find a train from midnight to 6 am.

With İZBAN, you can also get off at Halkapınar stop and transfer to the metro line. Thus, you can take the metro to Bornova (Aegean University) in the east and Üçkuyular in the west.

c. ESHOT

ESHOT is the bus operator operated by the municipality. On the front of the buses you will see three-digit numbers: 200, 202, 204, 206.

You can reach Karşıyaka with 200. Buses are operated instead of İZBAN, which is not overnight. Therefore, you cannot find the number 200 during daylight hours.

202 departs almost every hour for those who want to go in the direction of Balçova, Konak and Alsancak.

You can take 204 in the direction of Otogar and Bornova. There is a bus every hour of the day.

d. TCDD

You can go to Ödemiş and Tire districts by trains departing from Basmane and passing through the airport. (İZBAN and TCDD stops are in the same place.)

II. Transportation outside of Izmir

How to get to the main attractions?

Otogar (İzmir Coach Bus Terminal)
You can come to the Bus Terminal by taxi or 204. From here you can find buses to all parts of Turkey.

TCDD
You can go directly to Denizli from the airport. To go to cities such as Ankara, Eskişehir, Konya, Uşak, you need to go to Alsancak or Basmane. Then you can take the train you want. Traveling by train will take your time; but we have to say that they are affordable.

Kuşadası
a. If you do not have a suitcase and you want to go in the direction of Kuşadası, you can choose İZBAN. You can change trains at Tepeköy to Selçuk and continue to Kuşadası from there.
b. If you do not want an adventure on the road and want to reach your hotel as soon as possible, it will be the best decision to go to the HAVAŞ stop.

Aydın & Manisa
You can go to both cities directly with HAVAŞ.
