The literal meaning of the cumba is this: The latticed section in old houses that protrudes from the window level to the street. It is also possible to say that it is the same or close to "Bay window" or "Jettying"; however, I believe that it would not be wrong to refer to it as "cumba" as it has a characteristic unique to old Turkish houses.

If you are interested in history and architecture, I recommend you to walk these streets during your visit to Izmir. There are houses with cumbas on many streets in the Alsancak neighborhood of Konak, the central district.
No street from beginning to end has such houses; however, at least half of some streets are very rich visually... Therefore, it is possible to go on a small historical journey by walking around the area for an hour. If you wish, you can visit some of these houses, even partially. There are houses used as cafes, restaurants and bars.
If you want to combine it with a general Izmir (city center) tour, one of the closest points is Ataturk Museum. You can also consider the other destinations from Izmir via here.
