Advantages of Ridesharing

Ridesharing provides multiple advantages to both car owners and passengers. First of all, let's briefly talk about these positive aspects...

1. Perhaps the biggest advantage for passengers is that they can save almost half of their ticket budget. I looked at the journeys from Istanbul to Izmir for the date of 18.10.2022 in the application that I see as the best and which I will talk about in the continuation of the post. Prices start at 80 TL ($4.50) and go up to 150 TL ($8). Bus ticket prices for the same date are around 450 TL ($25). So more than 50% savings are possible...
2. It also has an economic advantage for vehicle owners. Let's try to explain with the example above. The car owner, who receives an average of 115 TL from a passenger, can buy 4-5 liters of fuel when traveling with a single passenger. Assuming that an average of 35-40 liters of gasoline is consumed, it meets 10% to 15%. When car owners take two passengers, the fuel cost is even lower. 
3. There are also advantages related to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions that almost everyone and especially such applications talk about. I don't fully agree with this. Because the passenger will already travel, s/he will consider options such as bus, train or plane. On the other hand, if one or two people prefer this type of application instead of renting a car, it will actually reduce the damage it will cause to the environment.

Best Rideshare App in Türkiye

BlaBlaCar is the most widely used ridesharing application in Türkiye as far as I know. It can be used from the application as well as from the website. The application, which is used in Belgium, Spain, USA, Mexico, Germany and many other countries and came into service in 2006, works with cash payment as far as I know. 

It may be good to have Turkish Lira for your trip and even get the full amount agreed before the trip. Because the issue of overpayment can be a problem. There are 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 kuruş and 1 TL coins in Turkish Lira. (50 kuruş is half of 1 TL.) Coins may be useful for your WC breaks during your journey.

Banknotes are available for 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 TL. Based on my experience, you can easily pay with banknotes, as travel fees are usually in multiples of 5 TL. (You may still need coins, depending on the agreed price.)
