Mardin: Mor Hananyo Monastery

Mardin, one of the southeastern provinces of Turkey, is almost like an open-air museum. There are dozens of places to see in the city. Even walking around its streets offers the possibility of a trip through history. The city is a destination that can be preferred by religions, history, culture and archeology enthusiasts. By the way, it is also ideal for gourmets (and especially kebab lovers) indeed...

Mor Hananyo Monastery is one of the religious places located in Tur Abdin, which is considered sacred for Assyrians. The monastery is also known as Saffron Monastery because of the saffron plant growing around it. The monastery consists of several parts. It exists in multiple parts, such as two churches and a sun temple.

How to Get There?

It is a 15-minute drive from the center of Mardin to the monastery. You can get from the city center by taxi or by renting a car. From Mardin Airport, you can take a bus or taxi to the city center. There are direct flights to Mardin from cities such as Ankara and İstanbul.

What to Eat?

In Turkey, Mardin and Hatay have their own unique culture. In these two cities, people of different ethnicities, different sects and different religions have been living together for hundreds of years. Therefore, culinary cultures have acquired a completely different feature.
