The Mevlana Museum and the Aziziye Mosque, which are 500 meters apart, are the two most important places to see in Konya. Why two places? Because at a distance of 500 meters and in the immediate vicinity there are many more must-see places from the Seljuk and Ottoman periods.
Mevlana Museum |
There is a quote in Turkish: Go around the world, see Konya. This means that even if you travel all over the World, you should definitely visit to Konya.
There's more than a museum and mosque in this route.
As you will see on the map, there are more than one places to visit, even just between two distances. Historical bazaars, mosques and museums... There are also restaurants where you can taste local dishes, such as tandır (tandoor kebab, but indeed, it is impossible to find an original tandoor. Kebabs made in the oven are quite tasty) or etli ekmek (bread with meat)...

Aziziye Mosque is an artifact made in the 1800s. Is still being used. It is notable as a unique combination of Baroque architecture and Ottoman architecture. (In fact, the mosque was built in the 1600s, but it was rebuilt after a fire.)
the Tomb gate |
Green domed place, which appears in the first photo, is where Mevlana's grave is located. There are also graves of his family and some dervishes here. In the museum* you can find what you are wondering about the Mevlevi Order. There are also descriptions of their way of life. In the garden of the museum there is a shop where you can buy souvenirs. I would also recommend sitting in the rose garden and taking a breather. You may also want to see the tombstones from the Seljuk and Ottoman periods.

How to Get There?
Konya is located in the same region as the capital of Turkey, Ankara: Central Anatolia. There are direct flights from Istanbul. In addition, the city can be reached quickly by high-speed train from Ankara.
* Mevlana Museum is free.
