The recent presidential election in the USA and the subsequent gift prepared by Coca Cola for the president brought the question "Coca Cola or Pepsi?" to mind again. Global competition is undeniable, but what about more specific options?..
Cola consumption in Türkiye dates back to the 1960s. The architect of this adventure is Coca Cola. As is the case globally, when it comes to cola in Türkiye, two brands come to mind: Coca Cola and Pepsi. Almost all restaurants carry one of these two brands, and both can be easily found in markets. Although gas station markets, grocery stores, and supermarkets sell both brands, businesses such as restaurants, cafes, and bars do not sell one if they sell the other.
Some regional and global negative situations, although not so dominant for Pepsi, were a factor in stopping (boycotting) Coca Cola consumption. According to social media and some news channels, local alternatives were also able to increase their market share, albeit partially, during this process.
Soft drink companies, such as Uludağ, Niğde, Beyoğlu sodas, became more heard during this process. Cola Turka, which was founded in the early 2000s, managed to increase its share in the market in a short time. Afterwards, it was not seen in the market for a long time. After being sold to a Japanese company in 2015, its advertisements started to appear on the streets and television again and its products started to appear in the markets in the last year.
In addition, it is worth mentioning that some supermarkets also produce colas specific to their own brands and offer them for sale in the shelves. Le Cola, produced by BİM and only available in their own stores, can be an example of this.
It is known that cola causes obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other serious health problems. Despite this, you also know that almost everyone of all ages enjoys consuming it. Sometimes with a meal, sometimes to cool off or with junk food...
Is there a global or local cola brand that you recommend?
