Noah's Vegan Pudding: Ashure (Aşure)

The word Ashure is the name of a dessert derived from the Arabic word "ten". According to rumors, the origin of this dessert goes back to the Prophet Noah. One of the healthy desserts you should try on your visit to Türkiye...

Don't let the photo deceive you; because almost everyone makes this dessert differently. There is no clear, precise recipe; because it is made with the materials at hand. Therefore, its appearance will always be different.

The video shows a small section in the initial preparation phase...

It is rumored that Prophet Noah and his family made this dessert with the leftover products. For Turks (from the Balkans to the Middle East), this dessert has a very special meaning. Derviş Mehmed Zilli (Evliya Çelebi), who lived in the 1600s, mentioned Ashure in his famous work Seyahatname.

Ashure, a vegan dessert, is rich in content. Culturally, 7, 10 or 12 materials are used in its content. Major products include wheat, barley, rice, beans, chickpeas, molasses, pomegranate molasses, beet juice, dried fruits such as dates, apricots, figs, raisins and currants, almonds and pistachios, hazelnuts, walnuts, pine nuts and sesame seeds like. Even coconut can be sprinkled, although historically it seems impossible. No ban, why not?

When Ashura, symbolizing fertility, is made, it is definitely shared with people. Maybe you want to prepare it as a favor on an important day for you and share it with your neighbors or friends, but especially with poor people...
