Don't Return Without Buying: Hazelnut Spread

What Nutella is to world cuisines, Turkey is to hazelnut production. Turkey is the place where one to three hazelnuts are produced out of every four hazelnuts consumed in the world. But there are those who think that this picture is likely to change for two reasons: First, global warming. The second is that hazelnut producers cannot make enough profit and do not plant new trees in place of old trees and even cut down and plant kiwi saplings. In short, production may be falling. I think it is necessary to encourage farmers and to be more sensitive to sustainable agriculture (and environment) issues.

Now let's get back to our topic...

FİSKOBİRLİK is a brand that was founded in 1938, with the encouragement of Atatürk, the founder of the Republic, by the merger of several hazelnut cooperatives. Currently, around 50 cooperatives are partners of this union. Since there is no private company and there is more than one cooperative, it is more reliable...

The brand is launching its Nuga and Fiskorella products, just like Nutella. It also launches products such as roasted hazelnut, halva, tea, milk hazelnut cream (Fiskokrem), hazelnut oil. The product that inspired this post is FİSKOBİRLİK Hazelnut Spread...

Two different product options are available. The first is the product with 65% hazelnuts and no added sugar. My preference is the second one: It contains 70% hazelnuts and also has sugar. Do not think that I recommend it because it contains 14.9 mg of Vitamin E, 197 mg of Phosphorus and 2.8 mg of Iron per 100 grams. It does not contain glucose and artificial sweeteners. It contains three things: Nuts, sugar and vanillin. By the way, on the back of the product, it is reminded that you should not worry about the oil you see when you open the cover. That hazelnut oil you see is not a sign of deterioration of the product...

How do we better eat?

Let's be honest, I prefer to dive into the jar with a dessert spoon...

Normal people, on the other hand, consume it by spreading it on slices of bread for breakfast. Do you love pancake or crepe? I suggest you try it with hazelnut spread as well as with honey or jam.

If you can no longer taste milk and oatmeal at breakfast, I recommend adding a teaspoon of hazelnut spread. If you are good with the kitchen, you can of course use it in products such as cakes, croissants and cookies.

Where can it be purchased?

I've seen it sold on websites a lot, but frankly, I didn't even order from the brand's own website. If you are reading this article and you have a high probability of visiting Turkey, there will be Migros or CarrefourSa around or on the route of your hotel. I'm sure it's not in every grocery store, but it can be found in supermarkets. You can easily find other brands, but it is more difficult to find the product of the FİSKOBİRLİK brand.
