12 Months, 12 Works: The Cult of Artemis

If you happen to be in Izmir this month, I recommend you to visit by the Izmir Archeology Museum. Thanks to the initiative called 12 Months, 12 Works, different products are offered to the visitors every month. Artifacts from different civilizations are introduced to visitors in different museums throughout the year.

The works, which started to be exhibited on April 1, can be visited until May 1.

  • Marble Artemis Ephesia statue from Kula-Thermai Thessos,
  • Terracotta figure of Artemis Ephesia from the Torbalı-Metropolis Ancient City,
  • Bronze Artemis statuette from Menderes Notion Ancient City.

How to go to the Izmir Archaeology Museum?

It is only 10 minutes away from the square where Izmir's symbol Clock Tower is located. If you are not comfortable with walking, you can reach the museum in 5 minutes by taxi from the same point.

If you are coming by metro, you can get off at Konak Station and walk for a very short time. If you are coming by ferry or tram, the name of the stop you should use is Konak, which is also the name of the district.

What to Eat Around for Breakfast?

If you are visiting the museum in the morning, you can buy "gevrek" (known as "simit" in all provinces except Izmir) from peddlers or fill your stomach with a local sandwich called "kumru".
