Aydın: Zeus Cave

About two months ago, I shared a national park: Dilek Peninsula National Park. Now, I want to share a natural beauty at the entrance of that park: Zeus Cave...

Zeus Cave
Zeus Cave

The cave, which is named after Zeus, the most important figure of ancient Greek mythology, is located in the province of Aydın. Located in Kuşadası, the most famous district of the city, the cave has been the focus of attention of local and foreign tourists for years.

Zeus Cave

The sign at the entrance of the cave reads:
"There are many stories told by people about close surroundings of the cave. The case is called Zeus maybe because there are rumours that Zeus the Jupiter and Afrodit the goddess of love took a bath in it. When you step into the cave, you accept that it deserves its name and you feel like as if you saw mighty god Zeus's face. The 10-15 meter deep water has turned here almost into a pool. With mixture of salt water from sea and fresh water from mountains, the blue-green water has become tasteless mineral water. God of heavens, Zeus, used to take shelter into the cave, rest and wash himself while waiting for his brother Poseidon to calm down who capable of running sea upside down by rising his three-prong his hand..."

Entryway

Indeed, people can cool off in this cave when the weather is bad. I have never visited in winter; but it is also said to be warmer in winter. It's literally cold in the summer...

The taste of the water is completely different. As described, neither sea water nor fresh water. There is no living thing in it. It is not clear how far the cave extends. According to various rumors, those who tried to measure its length were also unsuccessful...

Cave
Another forbidden cave

The photo above is a frame from the cave path. It used to be easy to enter. There is also a cave there. There is very, very little water, more like mud. It is closed to visitors.

There were people who used to tie cloth to the trees and bushes around the cave. Unfortunately, there are many people who are superstitious. I've never seen it now. It's either cleared or visitors are now more sensitive.

When you go now, there are wooden stairs and a viewing terrace. On the other hand, there are those who pass through the railings and enter the water. This time I did not dare. I think it's more fun to watch.
